School Transitions
Starting school is a special milestone for every child — and for their families too. At Little Petals, we believe this next chapter should be celebrated and carefully supported, ensuring each child leaves us feeling confident, capable, and excited for what lies ahead.
We understand that change can sometimes feel overwhelming for both children and parents. That’s why we take great care to make the transition to school as smooth and reassuring as possible. Our goal is for every child to feel ready to learn, ready to make new friends, and ready to begin their new journey with confidence.
To support this transition, we plan thoughtful and engaging activities such as:
Uniform Days to help children feel familiar and proud in their new school attire
Stories about Starting School to encourage discussion and answer questions
Role Play Activities to build confidence and understanding of school routines
At the end of the summer term, each child’s Learning and Development Summary is shared directly with their new school, helping teachers understand their strengths, interests, and next steps.
We also value close communication with local schools. Where possible, we invite teachers to visit the nursery so they can meet the children in their familiar and comfortable learning environment.
Transition is not just a moment — it is a process. We warmly welcome input from parents and carers at any time, as working together ensures the very best start for every child.
